BLEACH is a Japanese anime adaption based on the original manga series-‘Bleach’ illustrated by Tite Kubo. The anime was produced by Studio Pierrot and directed by Noriyuki Abe. It tells us the story of Ichigo Kurosaki, a 15-year-old high school student who attains the powers of a Soul Reaper from Rukia Kuchiki, another Soul Reaper in a tiny happenstance. With his newly obtained powers, Ichigo embarks on a path of becoming a Substitute Soul Reaper as he is all set to defend mankind from evil spirits and guide the souls of the departed to the afterlife.
Bleach was awarded the 50th Shogakukan Manga Award in the shonen category in the year 2005. Bleach had sold over 120 million copies worldwide with an average sales per volume of 1.62 million which makes Bleach the 6th best-selling series of all time from Weekly Shonen Jump.

The main character of the show, Ichigo Kurosaki, is a 15-year-old teenager from Karakura Town who has the ability to see ghosts and various spirits which leads him to meet Rukia Kuchiki, a Soul Reaper. As Ichigo and Rukia meet up in the former’s house, an evil strong corrupted spirit is termed. AsHollow attacks both of them leaving Rukia severely wounded so in the process of saving their lives Ichigo attains the powers of a Soul Reaper from Rukia to kill the Hollow.
Following this incident, Ichigo is forced to become a substitute Soul Reaper defends humans from evil corrupted spirits, and guides the souls of the departed to the afterlife. As he continues this journey, he meets various friends like Orihime Inoue (with healing abilities), Uryu Ishida (with power similar to the Soul Reapers termed as Quincy), Yasutora Sado (with supernatural spiritual strength) who have supernatural abilities like Ichigo. Later on, as the anime progresses, we are introduced to Rukia’s brother, Byakuya Kuchiki, who arrives from the afterlife (Soul Society) to arrest and execute her. Ichigo is easily defeated by Byakuya’s abilities and loses his powers as a Soul Reaper. Ichigo along with his friends then decides to save Rukia and approaches Kisuke Urahara who trains them to invade the soul society. Ichigo then enters the soul society and saves Rukia after a few more struggles but the worst comes to them as they were all manipulated by Sosuke Aizen, a captain of the 13 captains that run the soul society to get the wish-granting orb called Hougyoku which was hidden inside Rukia’s Body by Kisuke Urahara. He betrays the entire soul society and escapes with two fellow traitors, Tousen and Gin, into Hueco Mundo, the world of the corrupted Hollows.
This scene introduces us to the major antagonist of the anime and Ichigo vows to defeat Aizen and his companions to save the world and the Soul Society from the perils of Sosuke Aizen’s disastrous plans.
Bleach is a straight typical Shonen genre anime that basically have a simple story with fights taking place in every arc. Bleach also follows the same general pattern of having Shonen main protagonists and antagonists and yet it has a very unique mixture of various kinds of characters that can be related and connected to the real world. The animation style of the anime is highly impressive and can be considered ahead of its time when the anime first came out. But what makes Bleach an awesome anime is due to its sad surreal background music, It is an original combination of suspense, love, sacrifice, action, comedy, greed for power, and most importantly how each character justified its own characteristics. In a few words, Bleach is a beautiful heart-warming anime that is highly recommended for everyone to watch.
