Black clover

Black clover is an ongoing manga series that started its run on February 16, 2015. It is written and illustrated by Yuki Tabata and currently has 32 volumes. The manga was adapted into an anime in 2017.

It is the story of a young boy Asta who was born without any magic power in a world full of magic and aspires to be the wizard king.

This Shonen anime has been a fan favorite since its release due to its spell-binding plots and comedic timings. This series is set to have a film released in 2023. Over 20 million copies have been sold of the manga.

Black Clover Plot

Asta is an orphan who lives in an orphanage along with some other orphans including Yuno. The series is set in a world where almost everyone possesses at least some amount of magic which they can use due to the mana content in their body.

Asta seemingly has no magic power whereas his fellow orphan and rival Yuno is a prodigy.

Asta trains a lot to increase his physical strength to make up for his lack of magic power. He wants to be the wizard king, an authority that is respected by everyone in the Clover kingdom.

At the age of 15, everyone gets a grimoire which they use to exercise their magic power.

Yuno gets a 4 leaf clover grimoire similar to the one owned by the first wizard king.

At first, Asta didn’t get any grimoire. However later during a fight when Revchi Salik humiliates him, Asta’s grimoire appears.

But the grimoire wasn’t an ordinary one as it had a 5-leaf black clover on it and is said to have a demon residing within. Asta also obtains a sword along with it which helps him use anti-magic.

Both Asta and Yuno get selected into different magic knight factions and continue their journey with their respective magic knight captains.

The story then follows different arcs that our main characters go through and highlights the bonds and rivalries formed along with it. The background stories of the side characters are very interesting as well. Their quirks are always a plus. The side stories branching from the main plot make the whole series even more fascinating.
