The Eminence in Shadow (Kage no Jitsuryokusha ni Naritakute) is a Japanese light novel series written by Daisuke Aizawa and illustrated by Tozai.
It has been serialized on the user-generated novel website Shōsetsuka ni Narō since May 2018. It was later acquired by Enterbrain(Kadokawa Future Publishing) which has been publishing since November 2018 with 4 volumes to the present.
Later in December 2018, it got a manga adaptation with art by Anri Sakano and was serialized in Kadokawa Shoten’s seinen manga magazine Comp Ace for 8 volumes with more to come.
Both the light novel and the manga have been licensed by Yen Press.
Now, the series is getting adapted into an anime by Nexus studio. It is set to premiere in October 2022 on Wednesdays at 22:30 (JST).

The story of The Eminence In Shadow revolves around our protagonist, Cid Kagenou who gets isekai-ed/reincarnates into a fantasy world where he keeps a mediocre appearance to fulfill his desire.
However, this world is dark and is full of mysteries and fantasy where we see our protagonist entangled in a complicated power struggle between entities he is unaware of.
The series is about a fantasy world full of mysteries. Our protagonist, Cid Kagenou, is a 15-year-old boy who desires to be the hidden mastermind who manipulates the pieces like a chess master.
Amidst the training to fulfill his desire, he gets hit by a truck and dies. He is then reincarnated into a magical/ fantasy world where he keeps a low profile and moves forward to live his dream to the fullest.
With his proactive imagination, Cid starts to recruit members to his “fake” organization with a fake made-up backstory where they need to fight an evil cult.
But to his luck, these made-up stories turn out to be true and everyone knows the truth except him.
Unaware of the situation, Cid is stuck in his delusions and gets sucked into a complicated world of power struggles.
