Horimiya

“Hori-san to Miyamura-kun,” also known as “Horimiya,” is a Japanese manga written by Hiroki Adachi (Hero) and illustrated by Daisuke Hagiwara. The manga was initially self-published on Hero’s website, Dokkai Ahen, from 2007 to 2011. It was later published by Square Enix in ten volumes under the Gangan Comics imprint. The series includes additional side-story chapters called “Hori-san to Miyamura-kun Omake.”

Daisuke Hagiwara (illustrator) adapted the manga into a new version titled “Horimiya,” which was serialized in Monthly G Fantasy from 2011 to 2021. It has also been published in English by Yen Press. The story revolves around the characters Hori and Miyamura and their school life.

The manga was adapted into an original video animation series and later into an anime television series produced by CloverWorks, which aired from January to April 2021. A live-action TV drama adaptation premiered in February 2021. A second anime series titled “Horimiya: The Missing Pieces” is scheduled to air in July 2023.

“Horimiya” has gained popularity for its lovable characters, engaging storyline, and heartwarming romance.

Horimiya Plot

Kyouko Hori is a popular and cheerful student who leads two lives. As her parents are frequently at work, she looks after her younger brother Souta at home and takes care of all the domestic duties. She strives to keep her personal and academic lives apart and is renowned for her beautiful appearance and vivacious nature.

Izumi Miyamura, on the other hand, is a shy and reserved lad with spectacles who seems to be an otaku. However, Miyamura looks very different when he isn’t at school. He looks more rebellious and has numerous tattoos and body piercings. He hides this aspect of himself from Hori and the rest of his classmates.

Hori and Miyamura unintentionally learn about each other’s real identities outside of school one day. As they progressively open up to one another following this unexpected encounter, a strong friendship develops between them. They develop a deep friendship and then begin dating while disclosing their desires, insecurities, and secrets.

Hori and Miyamura interact with their group of friends, each of whom has their peculiarities and difficulties, as their relationship grows. The story follows Hori and Miyamura as they deal with friendships, relationships, and personal issues while navigating the high school experience’s highs and lows. Through numerous difficulties, they help one other out by providing consolation and company. As their friendship grows, amorous sentiments begin to surface, giving their story a romantic and love-filled flavor.

• • Kyouko Hori (VA: Haruka Tomatsu): Kyouko Hori is one of the protagonists and a high school student known for her popularity and academic success. She appears perfect at school but has a caring and responsible side at home, taking care of her younger brother and household chores.

Horimiya Review:

The original manga’s soul has been skillfully captured and brought to life on screen by the Horimiya anime. The characters in the series are among its best features. Kyoko Hori and Izumi Miyamura, the primary characters, are well-developed, and their relationship is endearing and believable.

You can’t help but root for them as they manage the difficulties of high school life and their issues as their relationship develops organically.

With its defined characters, interesting plot, and lovely animation, it presents an entertaining perspective on high school romance. Horimiya is an excellent choice for anyone interested in manga or new to the series because of its endearing and sympathetic depiction of teenage love and personal development.
