Chainsaw Man (チェンソーマン Chensō Man) is a Japanese manga written and illustrated by Tatsuki Fujimoto, it is a horror-plus comedy manga series. The first part of the manga was serialized in Shueisha’s shōnen manga magazine Weekly Shōnen Jump from December 2018 to December 2020. The second part of the manga will begin serialization in Shueisha’s Shōnen Jump+ online magazine in July 2022.
At the end of March 2021, eleven-volume collections of its chapters had been published. The series is bound to be a hit for mainly horror enthusiasts but also comic enthusiasts. As of October 2022, MAPPA is set to premiere an adaptation of an anime television series.

The story takes place in a world where Devils are born of fear. The events of the story take place in 1997, in an alternate timeline where the Soviet Union still exists, Holocaust has been erased from history. Likewise, there has been no war since the World War as the War Devil has been weakened to the point that the only traces of war exist in pop culture and media.
A devil’s power depends on how much fear he incites, so their power is proportional to how dangerous he is. It is possible to contract with them for the use of their power, and there are those who specialize in hunting and hiring them, known as Devil Hunters. It is believed that devils originate from Hell, and exist in a cycle between Earth and Hell: they migrate to Earth when killed in Hell, and vice versa. A powerful Devil who has never been killed lives in Hell called the Primal Fear. Hell Devils appear to oversee transit between planes.
The protagonist, Denji was left with a huge debt after the death of his father and he had no way to pay it back. Denji becomes a clumsy devil hunter with the help of his devil dog Pochita whom he saved. Now he is surviving by killing the devils for the Yakuza. Pochita has a chainsaw power which comes in handy in the fight with powerful demons. Later Yakuza betrays Denji and Pochita and tries to kill Denji but Pochita sacrifices himself to save his master. Denji has now been reborn in some form of strange human-devil hybrid. Now he is known as a Chainsaw Man.
As Chainsaw Man Denji is recruited by Makima under immediate termination as he himself is also technically a devil. Denji is now living a normal life but finds it difficult to determine his dreams and relationships.
The manga’s first arc has a total of 105 chapters which are compiled into 11 volumes. The first arc is now completed and was serialized on the weekly shonen Jump of Shueisha.
In North America, the manga is distributed by Viz Media in print and digital formats, and it is also available online through Shueisha’s Manga Plus service.
In August 2022, the manga had more than 15 million copies in circulation. In 2021, it won the 66th Shogakukan Manga Award in the shōnen category, as well as the Harvey Award for Best Manga. Critics have generally praised Chainsaw Man’s storytelling and characters, and have praised its violent scenes within its context.
The first trailer was revealed at MAPPA 2021 10th Anniversary event, on June 27, 2021. Chainsaw Man is directed by Ryu Nakayama and Makoto Nakazono (chief episode director) and scripts are handled by Hiroshi Seko, characters are designed by Kazutaka Sugiyama, and devils are designed by Kiyitaka Oshiyama. Action directing is done by Tatsuya Yoshihara and graphics are directed by Yusuke Takeda. Music is composed by Kensuke Ushio.

Crunchyroll will premiere the anime in over 200 countries. Chainsaw Man, will be available in North America, Central America, South America, Europe, Africa, Oceania, the Middle East, and CIS on Crunchyroll. Crunchyroll will also create additional dubs for the series to include English, Latin American Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese, French, and German.
Ani-One will simulcast Chainsaw Man in Asia regions.
